As winter storms shift to spring showers, the season couldn’t be more perfect to take a look at your home’s roof. After a rough winter full of snow, freezing rain, and high winds, your roof could look a little worse for the wear. So, now that spring has rolled around, it’s a smart idea to have a roofing pro over to take a look at that all-important defense against Mother Nature. Your roof could have missing shingles, shakes, or tiles. You may have a leak. Your gutters may be clogged. Et cetera. If you haven’t had your roof inspected for a year or two, we recommend that you have a roofer over to take a look. Here’s what we’ll look for when you give us a call:

Inspect for Leaks

First and foremost, we want to repair any leaks that we can spot. A leaky roof will cause damage to your home, and it may be an indication that your roof requires replacing. If you have an older roof with shingles that are missing granules (more on that in a second), wood shakes that are discolored, or even slate tiles that are cracked, we can perform repairs for various sections of your roof, or we can let you know if you need to update your roof altogether. Don’t let leaks continue to pour into your attic. Get an inspection this spring to ensure that you have a good roof over your head.

Check Shingle Granules

As we mentioned, if you have a asphalt shingles, you should keep a keen eye on the granules of those shingles to check their condition. If you have shingles that are missing most of their granules, then the shingle is likely to fail. We can climb up to your roof and inspect your shingles to make sure that they have plenty of granules which aid in taking on the brunt of storms. If you notice granules in your gutters or downspouts, then it may be time for a roof replacement, and it’s certainly time to have your roof inspected to assess its integrity.

Note Chimney Damage

While we’re up on your roof, we’d be happy to take a look at your chimney. We can inspect your chimney for any damage that it may have incurred throughout the coldest months of the year. We can look for deteriorating bricks, missing mortar, a rusted chimney cap, or a crown that is crumbling. Plus, if you work with Red Dog’s Roofing, we can provide repairs for all the aforementioned issues. We provide chimney repairs, including tuckpointing, chimney cap replacement, rebuilding, and flashing repairs. Feel free to learn more about our chimney repair services.

Other Protrusions and Flashing

We can examine other protrusions throughout your roof, and the flashing that has been installed on your roof, to ensure that all of these components are intact. With the heavy snows and damaging ice of winter, your vents and their flashing can become damaged. Flashing around your chimney, and the eves and the edges of your roof can also be damaged throughout the winter season. We’ll take a look at these components to ensure that they are ready for the coming year.

Inspect Gutters

Gutter damage is just as much of a liability as roofing damage, especially when heavy snows end up placing loads of pressure on your gutters. If your gutters have endured any wear and tear during the cold season, we can point out components that require repairs or replacement. We’d also be glad to make sure that your gutters aren’t clogged while we’re making our way around your roof.
